Farming with fish, not chemicals

Urban Aquaponics is a working aquaponic farm in Centurion, Gauteng. Every leaf we sell was grown in living water, fed by our own fish — without a drop of synthetic pesticide or fertiliser.

Our story

  1. 2015

    The first NFT channels

We planted our first lettuce into Nutrient Film Technique channels on a smallholding in Gerhardsville, Centurion — and never looked back.

  2. 2016

    The trout arrive

Our cold-water trout facility came online, closing the loop: fish feeding plants, plants cleaning water.

  3. 2017

    Deep water culture & recognition

We added deep water culture beds and became the only fresh produce in South Africa endorsed by both the Heart & Stroke Foundation and the CANSA Smart Choice Seal.

  4. Today

    Growing growers

Beyond the harvest, we teach — running hands-on courses so more people can grow honest food in their own backyards.
